60s vintage blue hand painted Japanese haori – one size, unisex | made in japan unique art to wear open front kimono robe
the most show-stopping piece ever! this is a gorgeous open front Japanese “haori”, which is a traditional jacket that is worn over a kimono. the garment is a rich blue color and it features original and textured hand-painted abstract artwork of a prophet on the backside, and a hidden artwork of a phonix on the red interior. there are gold embroidered Japanese characters on the front of the robe, which translate to “longevity.” although the complete origins are unknown, the haori itself is presumably from the 1960s with the artwork more recently done by the purchaser (not signed by artist), and it was possibly an old theatre costume.
this one-of-a-kind garment has a “one size” fit, and is a wearable work of art for all genders. would make a great display piece!
